Vision Africa is a small UK Charity with an annual turnover of between £200-250k. Our programme activities are based in Kenya with the potential to grow throughout Eastern Africa. We have a strong programmes team in Kenya and our proximity to the grass roots has become a key strength of the charity. Until now, our most senior management has been based alongside the programmes team in Kenya and we pride ourselves on being able to drive strategy and organisational development ‘in-country’ which ensures our relevance and effectiveness.
Most of our funding comes from community fundraising and individual giving (sponsorship) in the UK. We have a smaller portion of Trusts and Foundations funding as well. We have a Part-Time Fundraiser based in the UK who is working to grow both our community fundraising and our Trusts and Foundations fundraising.
Despite a desire to grow, some key challenges facing the charity are its lack of UK presence (senior management) and the need to drive sustainability and diversify funding streams. To this end, we are now seeking to recruit a UK National Director.
- Programme Oversight
- Global Organisational Development – ensuring that Vision Africa is relevant, dynamic and focussed on achieving its core aims
- Board Liaison – liaise with Kenya Board and UK Board towards good governance– facilitating the engagement of these bodies for governance purposes, and in pursuit of key partnerships for the success and growth of our work.
- Investigate the potential impact of a UK based ‘Organisational Partnership’ that could potentially lead to collaborative working (and perhaps even a merger) to strengthen operations in the UK and programme impact in Kenya.
In addition the post-holder will undertake other duties across all aspects of the work of Vision Africa, as required by the UK Board of Trustees.
Terms of Employment
Reports to – UK Board
Location – TBD (Possibly Home-Based)
Salary – £40-45,000 Gross Annual (Dependent on qualifications and experience)
Contract – 2 years fixed term with option for renewal (6 month probationary period), Full Time (Part Time will be considered, minimum of 3 days)
It should be noted that the initial fixed term of this contract is suggested with number (6) of the above Job Description in mind. With the organisation considering such a partnership, and a key function of this role being the negotiation of the same, we expect the successful candidate to identify a new, relevant role at the time of partnering, should that be the direction the organisation chooses to take. However, if the role of National Director proves sustainable, this fixed term will most likely be renewed and made permanent.
