Exciting opportunity to help Vision Africa grow!

Would you like to play an exciting role in a small but growing charity to see the lives of disadvantaged children and young people transformed?  Vision Africa works to equip and empower children and young people for a brighter future through Provision, Protection and Preparation, ensuring that they have the opportunity to fulfill their potential and make a difference in their families and communities.

We are seeking to fill the part-time position of Fundraising and Partnership Officer so that we can help more children access opportunities for a brighter future.

The successful candidate will work with our governance board and volunteers in the UK to see the success of our Fundraising Strategy, as well as liaising with our staff team in Kenya. Title:  Fundraising and Partnerships Officer

Location: UK (Home-based)

Salary: £18-20,000 pro-rata (dependent on qualifications and experience)

Position Overview:

This will initially be a part-time (3 days/24 hours) paid position and has been crafted to ensure the sustainability of Vision Africa’s work through the development of new and existing fundraising and partnership opportunities.  The post holder shall have significant responsibilities in supporting the work of Vision Africa’s Executive Development Board, Vision Africa’s Board of Trustees, Vision Africa’s Kenya staff team and other organisational efforts in all matters fundraising and partnerships.

The role will include occasional travel within the UK.

As Vision Africa is a Christian Charity the post would suit someone who professes a Christian faith, but we will also consider other applicants who are suitably qualified and who will uphold our Christian values, particularly those of honesty and integrity.  Note that the post holder may be required to make presentations to church groups as part of the role and reflect a Christian point of view in applications to potential Christian funding bodies. They will also be required to be in full sympathy with Vision Africa’s values, aims and objectives.

The position has the following principal responsibilities:

  1. To facilitate the creation of the fund-raising strategy for Vision Africa in UK, incorporating various income streams.
  1. Work with the Executive Development Board to successfully implement the UK fundraising strategy and meet fundraising targets.
  2. To offer administrative support to the US Board in order to support fundraising.
  3. To manage the donor database and other administrative elements of the fundraising function of the charity.
  4. To support the ongoing organisational development and growth of Vision Africa in the UK.

These principal responsibilities are described further below. In addition, the post-holder will undertake other duties across all aspects of the work of Vision Africa, as required by Kenya CEO or UK Board of Trustees.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. To facilitate the creation of the fund-raising strategy for Vision Africa in UK, incorporating various income streams.
    • Facilitate the timely creation of an annual strategy with clear quarterly targets to be laid out and agreed by the UK Board of Trustees
      • Conduct any preliminary research and gather necessary internal input and data.
      • Co-ordinate the efforts of the UK Board of Trustees, Executive Development Board and Kenya CEO.
      • Monitor progress of individual and team targets in order to drive accountability and fulfillment.
      • Any additional administrative support.
    • Consider various income streams – individual giving (including child sponsorship), trusts and foundations, community fundraising, partnerships etc.
    • Quarterly reviews and updates of the strategy document, including targets.
  1. Work with the Executive Development Board to successfully implement the UK fundraising strategy and meet fundraising targets.
    • Support fundraising from a wide range of sources including individuals (including child sponsors), trusts and foundations, community fundraising, partnerships etc.
    • Manage and steward donor and supporter relationships, including with child sponsors.
    • Engage the Vision Africa Communications Officer/Service Provider on intended fundraising campaigns and support required.
      • Explore new ways of exploiting and engaging existing and new networks.
      • Engage and nurture the passion of UK and Kenya volunteers.
      • Engage with marketing for fundraising purposes, for example the creation of videos, case studies and printed marketing materials.
  1. To offer administrative support to the US Board in order to support fundraising.
    • Support in completion of funding applications.
    • Sharing publicity and communication materials including but not limited to video, photos, stories etc to support their fund-raising efforts.
    • To incorporate the US audience into ongoing fundraising efforts where appropriate.
  1. To manage the donor database and other administrative elements of the fundraising function of the charity.
    • Ensure proper data input from UK, US Treasurers and Kenya Accountant.
    • Analyse and utilise the data for strategic application to fundraising and communications.
    • Provide reports and analysis of data and share information with other departments as necessary.
    • Track specific donations, particularly restricted funds, for feedback to donors.
    • Co-ordination with Sponsorship administrative staff (UK and Kenya) on all sponsorship related matters.
  1. To support the ongoing organisational development and growth of Vision Africa in the UK yvivhju.
    • To attend training, meetings and networking events to develop professionally and promote the work of Vision Africa.
    • To support other areas of Vision Africa’s work where necessary to enable the continued growth and development of the charity.
    • To act as an ambassador for Vision Africa and promote the organisation to your own personal networks.

 Employment details:

  • The Fundraiser and Partnerships Officer will initially be a part-time (3 days) paid position as mentioned above, with a initial one-year contract.
  • Hours will be flexible to suit and will comply with any legal regulations regarding working hours, a minimum of 24 hours a week will normally be expected.
  • There will be an initial probation period of 3-6 months, after which the post-holder will be confirmed to the position in writing. Full remuneration will be paid throughout the probation period, hence no review of the same will be made at this point.  Once the post-holder is confirmed to the position, a two month notice period will be expected should either party wish to terminate this agreement.
  • All other information, including important policy details regarding Code of Conduct, leave, expenses, and appraisals are detailed in the Vision Africa Operations Manual.

Requirements for Applicants:

Essential

  • Relevant Degree
  • At least 1 year fundraising experience (paid or voluntary)
  • Ability to work remotely with minimal supervision
  • Team player
  • Able to drive creative problem solving
  • Good analytical skills
  • Excellent time and task management
  • Excellent administrative skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 Preferred:

  • International Development experience (Overseas or UK setting)
  • Good understanding of small charity sector
  • Fundraising qualification or training
