If you’re looking for inspiration to get fit AND fundraise, here’s a great post by Morven who led the 2017 Skills Camp at Seed of Hope in Nairobi.
“Our team had already organised some great fundraising events when it was my turn to contribute. I was looking to challenge myself and get the most out of the experience, so when a friend asked if I was interested in doing ‘Tough Mudder’ I thought it a great way for me to achieve some personal fitness goals whilst raising funds for Vision Africa. It also gave people who couldn’t attend our other events we held the opportunity to sponsor me through online donations. This meant lots of friends and family living further afield than our locale were still able to make contributions, and of course that I could share the photos of the day for everyone to laugh at!
Tough Mudder itself was a great experience. I enjoy being active but I’m certainly no fitness guru! So whilst being a bit nervous about whether I’d be able to manage the ten miles and twenty (Yes twenty!) obstacles, I was delighted to find that all sorts of people (and body types) take part. The point is really about teamwork and the camaraderie was brilliant on the day. You don’t even need to do all the obstacles – if there’s something you’re uncomfortable with, you can cheer on your teammates from the sidelines then continue the course together. The sense of achievement at the end was amazing, and enhanced by the satisfaction of watching the online donations flood in. That certainly spurred me on the day of the event- I couldn’t let my sponsors down!
Over all, Tough Mudder was a win-win. I won out as I achieved some challenging personal goals, and our fundraising for Vision Africa was heavily bolstered by the generous donations. I’d highly recommend any individual or team challenge to boost fundraising. You really can’t go wrong!”
