Special Needs Schools
This is an area of our work in which we can justifiably be proud. In the past few years Vision Africa has opened two special needs schools for children with mental or physical disabilities. Our two schools in Kirunguru and Kambiti are the only ones of their type in the district of perhaps 2 million people, and provide these most needy of children with much needed facilities and the care and education they deserve.
The impact of these schools on the community has been tremendous. Before the schools were opened disabled children were often branded a curse on a family and hidden from public view within a mud house. Now this is changing fast, where such parents or guardians want the best they can get for their child.
To witness the change in a child as he/she comes into the school programme is amazing. Children that couldn't talk because nobody cared enough to teach them find their voices. Children branded as useless because they have learning difficulties come to life and our dedicated teachers bring out the best in them. Children with physical diabilities are able to reach their true potential.
