Childrens Homes
Vision Africa works in partnership with two children's homes to provide hope for hundreds of children that have nobody else to care for them. Children that would otherwise be left to fend for themselves and have little or no hope for the future.
While we prefer to try to keep children safe and cared for within a family environment, this is not always possible. In Kenya it is estimated that there are perhaps as many as one million children who are orphans. Our childrens homes provide a place where they can be loved and cared for, where they can find protection, shelter, food, clothing and education and live in a happy and safe environment.
We have invested heavily in construction work at both locations to provide well equipped, secure facilities for the children. At Riandu we purpose built the home from scratch and have provided all buildings, equipment and facilities. At Kandara we have worked to refurbish the whole place, which had become very run-down and partially derelict.
Also at Kandara we have provided a dedicated facility for abandoned babies: the St. Andrews Baby Unit. This provides dedicated facilities for the most vulnerable of children up to the age of 3. Thanks to our supporters we are able to sponsor the dedicated care of these children.
Through our supporters we are able to sponsor many of the children in Riandu children's home which, while run by a local committee and support group, relies almost entirely on Vision Africa for it's funding. Thanks to your support we are providing a loving home through dedicated staff to approximately 100 children.
At Kandara we have worked closely with the Sumerian Foundation as a partner with Vision Africa for some of the work we have undertaken there. With them we have been able to provide a facility where volunteers have been able to come and help support the home.
