Friends to the Rescue

What would you do if you and your family lost your home and all your belongings in a few hours due to a fire? Sadly, that is a situation that one of our Nairobi Seed of Hope students recently had to face.

Patience has just completed her first year at Seed of Hope. She lives with her sister, brother in law and their three children in Dagoretti. One evening, a child from a neighbouring house was sent inside to fetch something. As he left, he didn’t notice that the curtain had caught fire due to the flame from a nearby lamp. Education and Football in Kibera

The last few months have been very busy for Kibera Mpira Mtaani in terms of both football and education.

The after school education program tutored around sixty students for their KCPE (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education) exams which are sat at the end of their eighth year of primary education. These are the arguably the most important exams that students in Kenya will sit as they determine whether or not they will be offered a place at secondary school and which level of school they will go to – National, Provincial, District. Kariti Seed of Hope Graduation 2011

Friday 4th November saw the celebration of the fifth graduation at our Seed of Hope centre in Kariti, Murang’a. The staff and students went all out to ensure the event was a great success and the second year students were given a good send off as they head out to set up their Roots businesses.

Kandara School Wins Award

On “Education Day 2011”, Kandara Children’s Home School was named by Kandara District Education Board as the third best Early Childhood Development (ECD) Unit in Kandara District. Competition was tough with over 200 units in the area being considered, including both public and private schools. The assessment was based on academic performance, presentation and overall performance.

Engineering Brighter Futures For Boys

Seed of Hope has been giving disadvantaged girls dignity, hope and opportunity since 2002. Over the years, the program has evolved and spread throughout Kenya with four centres now in operation and over four hundred graduates in employment or self-employment.

October 2011 sees the start of an exciting new chapter for Seed of Hope as it opens its doors to boys for the first time. This is a very special project as there is a story behind how it came to life.

Young Kenyans for Kenya

The Vision Africa operations manual states that “To ‘Give a Child a Future’ is to ensure that the child is able to experience the opportunity to recognise and reach their potential, opportunity to live independently of charitable aid, opportunity to live in self-sufficiency, empowered to speak for themselves, empowered to reach out to others around them, empowered to show compassion to others in need, empowered to contribute to family and community life” and several other factors.
