On Thursday 4th November, something pretty amazing happened in Nairobi. It started with an email six weeks earlier and we had no idea it would grow into the fantastic event that it did. The occasion? The launch of a new collection of Crafted clothing at a fashion show to raise funds for Vision Africa’s feeding programs.

There are some moments we experience as Vision Africa staff/volunteers that we wish we could bottle and send back to the donor who made them possible. As a charity, Vision Africa relies on donations to enable us to support community projects in Kenya. The last few months have been busy for Seed of Hope. Both our first and second year students have been sitting their external trade exams and in September we saw three out of our four centres hold their graduation ceremonies. These two events are closely linked – traditionally, Seed of Hope has held graduations in December but since our second year students started sitting their trade exams, a number of them were able to find employment and put their skills to good use before their graduation ceremony. This year, it was decided that graduations would be held shortly after the exams so that all students who had completed their course at Seed of Hope would be there.

If you read our blog, you will have seen recent introductions to some of the key Vision Africa staff members Florence, Gerald and Mary. There are more of these in the pipeline but in the meantime we would like to introduce you to one of the members of our Kenyan board, known as the Council of Reference. The Council of Reference is there to ensure transparency of all activities and finances, and legal authenticity of operation of Vision Africa in Kenya. Acting in an advisory capacity to the Field Directors and to the UK Executive Committee, it ensures accountability of the field staff for projects and finances.
