Our Seed of Hope centre in Kariti, Murang’a, is a great success story. Under the leadership of Headteacher Njambi, the staff and students work hard both in class and in the other activities that sustain the project. Of all the Vision Africa projects, Seed of Hope Kariti has made the biggest steps towards self-sustainability.

There was a definite air of excitement on the day the World Cup opened in South Africa. People in Kenya were tweeting about wearing football jerseys to work and that some offices were closing early to allow staff to go and watch the opening match.

On Friday 4th June, the Queen’s Official Birthday was celebrated throughout the world. To mark the occasion in Nairobi, an event was held at the British High Commissioner’s Residence and Vision Africa was proud to be part of the day. The chosen theme was the sporting links between UK and Kenya and how sport can play a role in development. Thanks to our matches between the British High Commission Cheetahs and Kibera Mpira Mtaani we were invited along to promote the work of Kibera Mpira Mtaani.
News from St. Andrews Baby Unit

It has been a while since a new face has appeared at the St. Andrews Baby Unit. I’ve come to know the eleven little ones who are there and love spending time with them at the weekends. This weekend, I paid a short visit to the unit as I had work to do with some of the older children but in that time I got to meet the latest arrival who had been there just over a week.
John Packard Family Cup Finals

Anticipation, tension and excitement filled the air at Woodley Stadium on Saturday 29th May. This was the day that the John Packard Family Cup football tournament reached its climax with the final matches being played to decide the winners of each category.
Vision Africa Strategy Day

For the first time in Vision Africa’s history, on the 30th April all staff and project leaders in Kenya gathered together to discuss the objectives and role of Vision Africa. The day was entitled “Vision Africa Strategy Day” and was chaired by field director, Deborah Kimathi at the Nairobi Seed of Hope centre.
Staff Training

With Seed of Hope closed for April holidays, it was time for the staff to head back to the classroom for a training session that lasted two days. The Nairobi centre played host to all the teachers who travelled from Kisii, Kitui and Kariti Seed of Hope centres for this regular event which allows an opportunity to share experiences and skills as well as receiving updates on the syllabus.
