Packard Family Cup Finals 2011

Saturday the 21st of May saw the 2011 Packard Family Cup draw to a close. This annual football tournament brought together 136 teams over five categories ranging from under10s to under 16s and ladies. The reputation of Kibera Mpira Mtaani’s tournaments has grown so strong, teams from as far as Ngong and Kasarani registered and took part this time round.

Kibera Mpira Mtaani Sports Report Part 1

This Saturday, 21st May, will see the finals of the John Packard Family Cup football tournament hosted by Kibera Mpira Mtaani (Kimmta). The tournament is an annual event named after Vision Africa’s founders Reverend and Mrs Packard and usually runs throughout the April school holidays.

Arsenal FC Champions League

The 20th April 2011 was a special day for thirty young footballers in Kibera. Two coaches from Arsenal Football Club’s community coaching program returned to Kibera to host the Arsenal F.C. Champions League Tournament in the grounds of Toi Primary School in association with Alive & Kicking, Kibera Mpira Mtaani and Vision Africa.

Celebrating Heroes

We want to create as many opportunities for people to have an impact on the lives of disadvantaged children in Kenya…whether it’s holding a fundraising event, helping to raise awareness of our work our doing something practical at one of our projects.

VA Operations Manual: What? How? Why?

It’s not often that we manage to get a group of Vision Africa project leaders and representatives gathered together from across the country but when we do it’s usually a very productive time. Last April, we held our first ever strategy day in Nairobi. As a result of those discussions, an operations manual has been compiled and this April we spent a day reviewing sections of the document which will help project leaders and Vision Africa staff as they go about their work.

Supporting Education

Kandara Children’s Home is located about 45kms from Nairobi and is currently home for 65 children under the care of the local council. A further fourteen children from 0-3 years old live in the St. Andrews Baby Unit which is located within the home’s compound but comes under the care of Vision Africa.

Another area in which Vision Africa supports the home is in the education of all children. Read the full article »
