Meet One of Our Kenyan Board Members

If you read our blog, you will have seen recent introductions to some of the key Vision Africa staff members Florence, Gerald and Mary. There are more of these in the pipeline but in the meantime we would like to introduce you to one of the members of our Kenyan board, known as the Council of Reference. The Council of Reference is there to ensure transparency of all activities and finances, and legal authenticity of operation of Vision Africa in Kenya. Acting in an advisory capacity to the Field Directors and to the UK Executive Committee, it ensures accountability of the field staff for projects and finances.

Name

Faith Mamicha

Occupation

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

How did you come to be involved with Vision Africa?

I was assigned to Seed of Hope for my internship after Plug In with the Nairobi Chapel. Plug in is a twelve week group study run by Nairobi Chapel.  Part of the course encourages participants to get involved in Social Justice ministries (such as Seed of Hope). After meeting with Debbie (Deborah Kimathi, Field Director), it became clear that I could contribute more at Vision Africa given my experience having worked with NGO as a Finance & Administration Manager.

When did you join the board and what made you decide/agree to become a board member?

I joined Vision Africa last month and have been to one meeting that discussed fundraising opportunities. Debbie asked if I could be on the board and I agreed. I have a passion for mentoring and I know that this will be a good platform to do exactly that – mentor

What experience do you bring to the board?

I bring 19 years of Finance & Administration management experience, 8 of which are at Board level.

What do you hope to achieve in your role as board member?

I hope to contribute in ideas and implementation of fund raising ideas and to facilitate in the development of both HR & accounting manuals.

What are your first impressions of the work Vision Africa is doing?

I was very impressed by the volume of good work that Vision Africa is doing driven by their very profound vision. Changing/ touching a child’s life is changing the world – simple.

Any other comments for current supporters or those considering donating time/money/experience to the work of Vision Africa?

Any input in whatever form moves the world. It is really the little things that we do that make a big difference. Let’s soldier on and help Vision Africa.

There are many ways in which YOU can get involved in Vision Africa’s work – sponsor a child, mentor at a project, help us raise awareness on Facebook and Twitter, attend our Footprints event, join TeamVA running in Nairobi in October, hold a Crafted party…. Please get in touch for more information.
