On the evening of Thursday 23rd April, we will be presenting an opportunity for our supporters in Scotland to learn more about the work of Vision Africa and see some of the fruits of our projects.
The event is entitled “A Taste of Africa” and will feature beads, bites and beats from Kenya and beyond. The main entertainment will be a fashion show featuring clothes and accessories made by graduates from our Seed of Hope vocational training centres as we launch a new enterprise called “Crafted”. There will also be an opportunity to meet one of the Vision Africa field directors, Deborah Kimathi (nee Ross), and other staff based in Kenya and the UK.
For many of the “Crafters” who have produced the items for the fashion show, this is the first big exposure their work has had since their graduation in November. They have been working hard to put together the collections and are excited to know that their work will be shown in the UK. For anyone who sponsors a girl in a Seed of Hope centre, this will be a great opportunity to come and see the skills that your girl is trained in and the quality of work produced.
If you’re not into fashion, and football is more your thing then this is your chance to speak to one of our volunteers who helps co-ordinate the Kibera Mpira Mtaani (village football) project that hosts tournaments involving up to 2,500 children in Kibera.
We hope this will be an informative and entertaining evening in the relaxed environment of Arta (Albion Street, Glasgow) where we hosted a similar event last year. Arta have put together a tantalizing menu of African bitings which is included in the ticket price of only £10.
