Objects
Our constitution defines the objects of Vision Africa as:
To advance the education of children in Africa, primarily under the age of 18 but in certain circumstances provision will be made for those over 18 who are still in education.
To relieve poverty and distress amongst children in Africa.
To protect and preserve the health of children in Africa.
Vision Africa was established in 2001 to work among the poorest and neediest children in Kenya. The AIDS pandemic is rife and there exists a huge number of orphaned and destitute children.
Our goals can be summarised as 'Provision', 'Protection' & 'Preparation' and we aim to meet these through education, the development of children’s homes and vocational training centres, and through distribution of food & clothes.
The charity has no permanent base of operations in the UK, but works through a network of part-time volunteers. In Kenya we have a small team of full-time voluntary staff and Kenyan national employees. This presents a cost effective model with very low overheads and a high proportion of our income going directly to the field where it is most - to help the children.
Financial Summary
During the year the Charity has incurred no staff costs in the UK, and the trustees have received no remuneration or expenses. All UK of the work of the Charity was undertaken by volunteers.
Receipts from all sources in 2008/9 was significantly down on the very high level of giving in 2007/8 and also down on 2006/7, totalling £125,752. This reflects today’s very difficult economic situation. Total Expenditure was approximately £180,000 of which about £2,200 was spent in the UK on bank charges and running costs, meaning our UK administration overheads account for less than 1.5% of our total costs.
