Here are some pictures from the areas we are working in. We hope these help to give you a feel for the desperate needs of the children. Click on the small pictures below to view them full size. We also have a database driven picture gallery which you might like to visit which has pictures of most of our projects. Choose Photo Gallery from the menu, or click here. |

Kibera is one of the largest slums in Africa and, indeed, in the world. It is currently estimated to be home to about one million people. |
Kibera just goes on and on... Families of up to 9 or 10 live in what could only be described as boxes. Just a few feet wide and barely big enough to sit up in.
This is the entrance to someone's house in Kibera. |

This is a pathway in Kibera. There are no sewers and no drainage. The stinking alleys between the houses are filled with rotting rubbish and human excrement. The hardest thing to come to terms with is that to the people that have to live in these dreadful conditions this is normal.

Vision Africa works with a number of small
school prgrammes in Kibera. We have lately been pleased to offer
support to the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy and this picture shows some
of their pupils enjoying a quick kick around.
We also support the very successful 'Kibera Mpira Mtaani', or 'Kibera Village Football' as it translates, in organising and running several tournaments a year for hundreds of young people in the slum. See our project pages for more details. |

This is St. John's Academy in Riruta taken during a visit by our 2007 Mount Kenya Challenge team. The children are all waiting patiently for the entertainment which has been organised, including poems, dance, song and drama from all the children. This is a Vision Africa supported school in one of the smaller slum areas in Nairobi. It has achieved very good academic standards and many of the children here are sponsored through our supporters. |
| From a bit further afield, this is the Vision Africa sponsored children's home at Riandu. This was purpose built from scratch by Vision Africa and first opened in 2004. There are approximately 100 children in the home and many of them are sponsored by Vision Africa supporters. This is one of two homes that we currently support. |
